Let\u2019s hear Nicole Serje\u2019s best advice for creating a holistic postnatal program that incorporates movement with mindfulness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"color: #292929; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; white-space: normal;\" src=\"https:\/\/flexhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/bridge-program.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>The post-natal recovery journey<\/strong> is different for everyone, and there are so many factors that affect it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>Becoming a mum<\/strong> makes you physically,\u00a0 emotionally and psychologically a different person\u2026 which is not a bad thing!\u00a0 Whether you have children or not, you\u2019re continually changing as a person over the course of your life, so why not try to accept and embrace it?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>There is no rush to get back to your \u201cpre-pregnancy body\u201d<\/strong>, and to be honest, you have changed physically and won\u2019t necessarily be exactly how you were before being pregnant. The important thing is to first focus on what\u2019s happening within your body, and then start to work on how you\u2019d like to look on the outside. Build yourself up working from the inside and then out.\u00a0 Don\u2019t push too quickly and don\u2019t overdo things. Add core strengthening exercises and gentle movements in the initial stages of your recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>You grow a baby for 9 months<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0don\u2019t expect to recover overnight.\u00a0 In terms of feeling like \u201cnormal\u201d, it can take anywhere from twelve to twenty-four months.\u00a0 When you consider the physical changes during pregnancy as well as the emotional and hormonal influences on your body \u2013 among other things \u2013 they all play a role in how quickly and how well you recover postnatally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\">\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flexhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Flex-instructors2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>Having a caesarean birth is major surgery<\/strong>, but it doesn\u2019t usually get treated that way. \u00a0 When you have knee surgery, for example, there is a complete rehabilitation strategy with regular physio and specialist follow-up appointments to ensure everything is on the right track. There is not usually the same level of intensity postoperatively for mums who\u2019ve had caesarian operations! Mums who\u2019ve had a C-section rarely get encouraged to see a specialist to help them with scar tissue management or correct core re-connection.\u00a0 Plus they have to manage their recovery while also looking after a newborn. Seeing a women\u2019s health specialist should be a standard part of every mum\u2019s post-natal recovery journey.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>Pilates uses rehabilitation principles<\/strong> to help new mums recover from giving birth. I believe it\u2019s the best way to get your body on the right track in the long run, because it approaches recovery from all angles, not just that of body image.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>The first step to recovery is breathing<\/strong>.\u00a0 Correct breathing technique is essential for engaging and strengthening\u00a0 the pelvic floor and for reconnecting the core unit as a whole. Most mums need to be taught how to breathe properly again after having a baby, as breathing is usually significantly affected during pregnancy.\u00a0 Once there is re-establishment of the core unit, it is then important to learn how to maintain that connection while going about day to day activities and during exercise. I can\u2019t stress enough the importance of finding that connection and applying it to your daily life!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>If you try and push things too soo<\/strong>n, it could lead to bigger problems down the road. A lot of mums, and especially first-time mums, want to \u201cget back in the gym\u201d doing the exercise programs they did pre-pregnancy. This is entirely possible to do, but it must be worked towards in a safe and timely manner. If, for example, you start your regular training without ensuring the pelvic floor and core muscles have reconnected well enough to be able to manage and sustain the extra loads to the body, then there is a higher risk of more serious issues such as hernias or prolapses later down the track.\u00a0 I\u2019m not trying to scare anyone, but it\u2019s important that as women, we are aware of how our bodies are affected, that we are informed to best protect and prevent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>Post-natal recovery is really to do with lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 exercise is just one part of the equation. \u00a0 Nutrition, stress levels, hydration and rest, along with exercise, are all essential and important for intelligent and long-term recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height: 1.7999999999999998; margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;\"><strong>You\u2019ve got to look at the long term picture<\/strong>. You\u2019ve only got one body,\u00a0 which has accomplished an amazing thing, and it needs taking care of. My biggest advice?
