Why IS giving better than receiving?\u00a0 At the end of the day, we\u2019re all simply energy. Giving promotes an increase in energy, whereas receiving can, at times, be depleting. Striking the right balance between the two creates harmony. The key to preserving yourself during the holidays and finishing the year rejuvenated rather than depleted is to keep your energy exchanges balanced.<\/p>\n<p>By energy exchanges, I mean interactions with others, and reactions to situations. This may be the first year families finally gather after several years to celebrate in big groups.\u00a0 We are all eagerly looking forward to reconnecting with loved ones\u2026 but no doubt there will be some stress around these reunions.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes however, the issue may be one\u2019s perception of energy exchange, i.e. miscommunication. \u00a0 We may think we\u2019re selflessly offering something, but the person on the receiving end has a different idea. Or, we feel all we do is give and give, without receiving as much in exchange. \u201cI did all the cooking and cleaning, while everyone else sat around chatting after dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/flexhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/candy-cane-heart.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flexhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/candy-cane-heart.jpg 560w, https:\/\/flexhk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/candy-cane-heart.jpg 300w\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p>How can we get through the holidays in a calm and balanced manner? From my personal experience, these five tips have helped me the most:<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip #1:\u00a0 Make everything inclusive.<\/b> Invite others into your process, from simple household tasks to talking through what\u2019s on your mind.\u00a0 This ensures you don\u2019t end up single-handedly trying to tackle things which deplete your energy, from washing up, to wrapping presents, to \u201cdive deep\u201d conversations into the night exchanging family gossip.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip #2: Ask for help when needed<\/b>, and be open to how that manifests. Perhaps a relative completes a task slightly different to how you might have approached it. Be ready to learn a new way, and keep perspective on what really matters in the big picture.\u00a0 No judgment here, the task is complete. \u00a0 Don\u2019t sweat the little details.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip #3: Don\u2019t obsess over \u201cperfection,\u201d<\/b> which may only be in your mind\u2019s eye after all. You may perceive flaws which no one else even notices.\u00a0 Table not set perfectly?\u00a0 Turkey not brined long enough?\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0 Try to maintain a balanced perspective.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip #4: Inclusive Movement!<\/b> All too often we let our exercise routine slip over the holidays; however, this is exactly when we need to keep producing those mood-boosting endorphins.\u00a0 Feel the urge for a brisk walk after dinner? Invite the fam to join!\u00a0 Maybe they don\u2019t walk as fast as you\u2026 never mind!\u00a0 Enjoy the company and the chance to move together. Have a spare 30 minutes before lunch or dinner is served? Grab someone for a quick sweat or stretch sesh. I guarantee you\u2019ll both end up smiling and laughing\u2026 can\u2019t beat that for bonding. In fact, I invite you to grab your MOST annoying relative to join you in these sessions, and see if that doesn\u2019t help change your personal dynamics.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tip #5:<\/b> <b>Create a \u201ctheme\u201d<\/b> for the gathering, around which a narrative is crafted through everyone\u2019s contributions. Perhaps everyone wears a certain \u201chat,\u201d or \u201ccontribites a joke or quote.\u201d following a specific narrative.\u00a0 Perhaps gift giving is around a specific theme. \u00a0 In the future, you\u2019ll have this cohesive memory which will help preserve the magic of your gathering. \u201cOh, remember the \u201cLucky Charm\u201d lunch?\u00a0 That was such a lovely
