{"id":41578,"date":"2024-05-28T14:49:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T06:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flexhk.com\/2024\/05\/28\/what-is-the-right-pilates-class-for-you-2\/"},"modified":"2024-09-02T15:29:36","modified_gmt":"2024-09-02T07:29:36","slug":"what-is-the-right-pilates-class-for-you-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/like2say.com\/flexhk\/what-is-the-right-pilates-class-for-you-2\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the right Pilates class for you"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>What Is The Right Pilates Class For You?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Maybe you\u2019ve been practicing Pilates for a while and hope to advance, are completely new to a studio, or might even be contemplating taking an instructor\u2019s course yourself!<\/p>\n<p>The good news is, whether Pilates is a foreign concept or you\u2019re trying to reassess your practice, this quick refresher will point you in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>And with Global Wellness Day (GWD) on June 8 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalwellnessday.org\/\">https:\/\/www.globalwellnessday.org\/<\/a>) let this be the inspiration to point you in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, we\u2019ve asked our talented Flex co-founder, Heather Thomas, to talk us through how to choose the ideal class for your unique requirements.<\/p>\n<p><b>Heather Thomas:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Q: <\/b>As an intermediate or advanced practitioner who has maybe plateaued after doing the same thing for years\u2014how do you reinvigorate your practice?<\/p>\n<p><b>A:<\/b> \u201cI define each level according to the Pilates standard, stressing that \u2018levels don\u2019t refer to physical fitness, but familiarity with Pilates as a system\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Level 1<\/b>: Little to no familiarity with Pilates equipment. \u201cYou may be a rockstar runner,\u201d says Heather,\u201d but I\u2019d still need to put you in the Level 1 class.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><b>Level 2<\/b>: Intermediate to advanced practitioners. Classes involve quick transitions and familiarity with the apparatus; the pace can go fast, so clients need to be able to keep up with adjusting the springs and bar (for example).<\/li>\n<li><b>Multi-Level<\/b>: Designed to suit a range of levels, open to those with basic Pilates knowledge as well as more experienced practitioners. The instructor can modify the workout for each student, ensuring everyone works to his or her ability. This enables more advanced students to get a real workout while allowing beginners to practice safely and correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve covered that, let\u2019s get to choosing the right Pilates class for you!<\/p>\n<p><b>If you\u2019re<\/b>: Pregnant<\/p>\n<p><b>Take<\/b>: Pre-Natal or Pre\/Post-Natal Pilates Trio<\/p>\n<p>Pre Natal Pilates classes incorporate mat work and equipment exercises. Modifications for each trimester are given, enabling participants to achieve optimum shape for the arrival of their little ones. The class aims to help expectant mothers: (1) Strengthen the lower abdominal region to support the growing baby and thereby alleviate lower back pain; (2) Tone the pelvic floor muscles in preparation for delivery (and aid in recovery), (3) Improve posture (neck, shoulders &amp; mid-back); and (4) Develop an awareness of deep breathing to assist movement.<\/p>\n<p><b>If you\u2019re looking for<\/b>: Rehabilitation from an injury<\/p>\n<p><b>Take<\/b>: Level 1\u00a0 Reformer Beginner (or a private as an introduction).<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re injured, we recommend doing an initial assessment at the studio first with a professional instructor. What class you need to take really depends on the injury\u2014some people need more stability, others need more flexibility, while some need to be mobilized. This would dictate what class you need.
